1. EPC Overview

Environmental Protection Credit(EPC) is an incentive mechanism based on the emission reduction potential(ERP) that enables early compensation for the climate solution owners. Designed to boost carbon emissions reduction, EPC facilitates development and commercialization of innovative solutions that have had difficulties in attracting investment despite their high reduction potential due to their less mature technologies, thereby making the efforts to reach net zero more effective.

2. CSES roles for EPC establishment

2-1. Research
  • Contributes to ERP estimation by aggregating and compiling data on climate technologies and market intelligence through meta-analysis to assess reduction intensity, technology advancement and market penetration of innovative climate solutions to help stakeholders more clearly understand how much contribution can be made by each solution
  • Offers important indicators to help businesses plan investments and R&D projects, and investors make decisions on solutions
  • Provides important data for policymakers to help them understand how each solution can make contribution to net zero
  • Raises awareness of the public on the significance of innovative climate technologies and their pivotal roles in responding to climate change
2-2. Partnership
  • Provides basic resources and reference data essential to prove effectiveness of the EPC mechanism to encourage stakeholder engagement and facilitate development of the climate solution market that can generate social and environmental values as well as economic benefits
  • Raises awareness about objectives and expected impacts of the EPC mechanism by providing educational seminars and programs for the public
